damn... tim paine 2nd best keeper? turn it up!
i've played against tim paine, and as such i'd love to see him get higher honours... however, he is not even keeping for tassie in the pura cup! he did for a couple of months last summer, but his batting suffered big time. they brought clingeleffer back and he and butterworth won us the pura cup final!
paine also struggles to open the batting and keep in the one dayers for tassie. i'll be very interested to see how he goes now in the middle order. he's sadly a much different player to what he was when he was rising through the ranks- he looks nervous to me every time he bats. he was always so explosive.
i'll give u the tip- matthew wade is the next big thing with keeping- i can't believe that tassie let him go. i also played a game against him as a young chap, and as a wicket keeper myself, i learned so much from him. he was a really, really nice guy as well.
so, paine, second best keeper in oz? LOL. in one day cricket, he's behind haddine and ronchi (i want this man to play for australia!)
regarding racism- i have grave fears about the upcoming summer. unfortunately, australian sporting crowds are a pack of wankers, and there will be sections of the crowd who try to get retribution for roy.
i just hope when/if murali comes out here and 'we' should NO BALL every time he bowls he doesn't cry about it and claim racism.
how about the first test? there's a couple of spots open- who do you see getting in?
firstly, i think jaques has done enough over the last few years to get first crack. i was open to hussey opening and bringing in another middle order batsman, but i don't think anyone is banging down the door. the next batsman in the queue for a spot in the team is jaques.
regarding the spinner... well, gabba is often a green top... the 2nd test is in tassie, who won the pura cup last year playing four quicks.
i think we should play 4 quicks- i don't think we will, but i think we should. especially when the pitches are going to be favourable, we should play the four best bowlers, whether they be slow or quick bowlers. we've got part time spinners in clark and symonds- so i reckon play 4 quicks. i'd love to see one of those bowlers be hilfenhaus- he is such an amazing bowler to watch. great line and length, the best swing bowler in australia, bowls a cracking bouncer (that he doesn't use enough)- and he provides a very different option to the rest of the 'top 4' in australian fast bowlers.
1. hayden
2. jaques
3. ponting
4. clark
5. hussey
6. symonds
7. gilchrist
8. lee
9. johnson
10. clarke
11. hilfenhaus
tait, as good as he was in the world cup, just isn't good enough for the 5 day game i don't think. and regarding a spinner? well, just let them all shoot it out in the pura cup- hogg, bailey, casson (if he gets a game), cullen. (i don't think macgill will get a look in because a) he's 35 and b) there's plenty of people in the team that don't like him, including the one that matters- ponting)
